Rackley’s, Buckinghamshire

This project has given a vibrant new purpose to a group of dilapidated agricultural buildings on a seven-acre site, parts of which date back over 300 years. A Wedding Venue accommodating 120 guests reflects the Chiltern vernacular whilst providing luxury facilities for a variety of functions in a spectacular setting.

Spratley & Partners design for the Sargent Charitable Trust successfully and sympathetically preserves historic courtyard buildings, featuring the re-use of original bricks and flints and the skillful retention of their timber framed roof structures. A complex engineered green oak frame integrated with the retained frame has allowed a contemporary yet sensitive enlargement of the main barn. The result is an inspiring internal space flooded with daylight and enhanced by panoramic views to the south and west.
